(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Kentucky’s 38-24 ho hum opening day win over Toledo wasn’t the most exciting thing in the world—but the rest of Saturday more than made up for it. Admit it, you were cheering your socks off for Georgia State as they took down the once might Vols 38-30. Fans of Rocky Top—at one point considered one of the nation’s elite programs, now find themselves the laughingstock of the entire college football world. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!
But that wasn’t all. Just look around the rest of the SEC and you’ll find enough carnage to go around. South Carolina loses to North Carolina 24-20. Ole Miss chokes up a 15-10 loss to Memphis. Wyoming blows up Missouri 37-31. Auburn needs a last-minute miracle to squeeze past Oregon. It’s enough to make your head spin and your heart flutter.
All of a sudden, a two-touchdown victory at home over a mediocre MAC team doesn’t look so bad.
“We’re never going to apologize for winning the football game,” Stoops said in his postgame presser. “It’s always a good thing when you walk in and you win by 14 points and you’re frustrated in a lot of ways, but that’s OK. We’re striving to be the best we can. We left a lot on that field, but we also did a lot of good things.”
After one weekend, Kentucky remains undefeated. Meanwhile, the heat is on the rest of the SEC as the UT Twitter feed boils over and Will Muschamp’s seat gets even hotter. College Football is back with a vengeance, and we’re here to witness it all.
